The True History Project is made up of a Maine based collective whose mission is to record, produce and curate stories from the lives of elders and others who have made and are making significant contributions to movements for social and environmental justice. Integrating various mediums including audio and film, these stories will be promoted and made available to educational venues, including classrooms, public media platforms and online. The vision of this project is to preserve and recover stories that inspire, instruct and inform. Ordinary people's stories are too often lost and obscured. Dominant powers survive in part by erasing those narratives which disrupt their authority. Yet these stories are true history. Future generations will benefit from these narratives by making history real and personal, and by finding people to relate to who have worked to make the world a more just and peaceful place.
